It has been seen that fertility tests for women are more common among women who are past the recommended age for conceiving. The requirement of fertility tests for women is seen more among women who are more than 34-years old. Further, if any woman suspects her of being unable to conceive in a natural manner, a fertility test is often prescribed to decode if there are any underlying causes for this. Secondly, fertility clinics that handle cases of women diagnosed as infertile may repeatedly order fertility tests as a part of their treatment in aiding the patient to conceive in a natural manner. Such specialists are often called infertility specialists. Some of the most common fertility tests for women have been discussed below. These testing procedures can be conducted individually or as a part of the comprehensive testing schedule.

Physical Examination

The physical examination is limited to checking for some conditions that have been established as a cause for infertility among women. This includes testing for sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea and chlyamydia along with checking-out the entire genital structure to decode whether an anatomical problem is preventing the pregnancy.

Blood Tests

This fundamental test initiates the infertility clinical testing. Conducted after the patient has been put through a thorough physical examination, the blood tests are required to check the female hormones. The ability of a woman to conceive is largely dependent on the combination of vital hormones. Similarly, hormones play a critical part in helping the woman to conceive, including maintaining the pregnancy and helping even during the childbirth and post-partum process. Along with the typical hormones associated with a woman, some metabolic hormones like thyroid and insulin are also checked. This is done to find out if a metabolic disturbance is precipitating the infertility. Some of the infertility clinics might also test for hepatitis and HIV at this stage, though this practice isn't very common.

The blood testing is scheduled after mapping the menstrual cycle of the patient. This is essential because the concentration of certain hormones is known to be higher during different phases of menstruation. Apart from the two, important female hormones like progesterone and estrogen, pregnancy-specific hormones like follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone are repeatedly tested. It has been noticed that the luteinizing hormone levels tend to rise during the middle part of a menstrual cycle. This is why it is important that the clinic provides a systematic chart to the patient explaining which days are best suited for collecting the blood samples. Similarly, other hormones like estradiol tend to vary through the ovulation cycle.

Some of the other tests include:

1. Pelvic ultrasound
2. Tubogram
3. Visual examination of uterus
4. Laparoscopy
5. Uterine biopsy
6. Post-coital test
